Jurassic World Rebirth Trailer Breakdown: Key Moments Explained
Universal Pictures released the final trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth on Monday, giving moviegoers one last look at the upcoming film before it makes its summer debut over the Fourth of July weekend. Jurassic World Rebirth is scheduled for release on July 2, 2025, and will reboot the Jurassic World series while also making a “return to the literal roots” of the franchise. The movie will reunite fans with Jurassic World co-stars Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali, revisit the original Jurassic Park research island, and see both characters attempt to save the world while contending with a mix of high-concept science and classic dinosaur terror.
Jurassic World Rebirth is the fourth film in the Jurassic World series and the seventh overall in the franchise that began with Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park in 1993. Gareth Edwards, the director behind 2014’s Godzilla, directs Rebirth, while the script was written by David Koepp, who is returning to the franchise after writing both the first Jurassic Park film and 1997’s The Lost World. Jurassic World Rebirth stars Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Rupert Friend, Jonathan Bailey, and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, with Ed Skrein and Philippine Velge in undisclosed roles.
Per the official description, Jurassic World Rebirth follows “five years after the cataclysmic events of Jurassic World Dominion, in which the world’s ecosystems have become inhospitable to dinosaurs, survivors are corralled into a shrinking band of equatorial strongholds engineered to replicate the conditions of their ancient prehistoric homes.” The three largest dinosaurs on land, sea, and air remain in a single large tropical biosphere, each of which hosts genetic material with the potential to become the key component of a life-saving drug. The person they turn to for the job is covert operations specialist Zora Bennett (Scarlett Johansson), who leads a team of specialists on a top-secret mission to recover the critical genetic code.
Jurassic World Rebirth jumps off when the covert team’s mission collides with a group of families on a boating trip that becomes interrupted by a dinosaur attack on the water. The survivors manage to reach a seemingly abandoned island, where a secret Jurassic Park research site is hiding secrets that may be darker than the dinosaurs on the island.
Characters and Dinosaurs Return in Trailer
The final trailer is filled with an all-star cast that includes Johansson, Ali, Rupert Friend, Jonathan Bailey, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Luna Blaise, David Iacano, Audrina Miranda, and Bechir Sylvain, with Ed Skrein and Philippine Velge also featuring in yet-to-be-announced roles. In addition to Johansson and Ali, Rupert Friend co-stars as Martin Krebs, a representative from a mysterious pharmaceutical company; Jonathan Bailey as paleontologist Henry Loomis; and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as Reuben Delgado, who is the father of the family on the boat. Reuben’s children are played by Luna Blaise, David Iacano, and Audrina Miranda, with Bechir Sylvain among the team members accompanying Zora on her mission. Ed Skrein and Philippine Velge also appear in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
Much of the footage from the first trailer released back in February has been recycled for this new one, as the film’s trailers recycle much of the key themes and visual effects of the film. The new trailer, for instance, opens with a high-tension laboratory scene in which a lab worker in a hazmat suit gets trapped in a cage with a hungry Tyrannosaurus rex. “Call anyone!” the worker shouts, but it’s too late. From there, it sets the tone: expect high-stakes action, white-knuckle thrills, and, of course, some awesome dinosaur carnage.
Jurassic World Rebirth also teases one of the film’s key set pieces in the trailer: an attempted robbery of a pterosaur egg, possibly from a Quetzalcoatlus northropi, described by one character as “a flying carnivore the size of an F-16.” Viewers also see the return of classic franchise villains, the raptors, and a new sea predator, the mosasaur. Dialogue in the trailer also reveals that this particular island was set aside to house “the worst of the worst,” or the most dangerous and unpredictable dinosaurs cloned by the research teams.
Jurassic World Rebirth is billed as a reboot and reset of the franchise. The movie will also return to the original Jurassic Park research island, potentially appealing to long-time fan nostalgia. New additions to the Jurassic World franchise, like the mosasaur and concept of “the worst of the worst,” should shake up the status quo and prevent old favorites from becoming too stale. It’s unclear if the new film will be a true reset for the entire franchise, but the new trailer showcases all the best elements: an elite team on a mission that involves high-concept science, characters in morally ambiguous gray areas, and pure dinosaur chaos.
Jurassic World Rebirth doesn’t hold back when it comes to action, with the trailer featuring several tense near-escapes, including characters fleeing through the island’s thick jungle, hiding in sunken wreckage on the ocean floor, and more as they attempt to outsmart the prehistoric predators. Johansson, in particular, looks set to introduce a grittier, more tactical take on the usual Jurassic World survival story.
Jurassic World Rebirth will be released in theaters nationwide on July 2, 2025, setting up a prime box office summer debut over the Fourth of July weekend.
